Olympus launched the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ (35mm equivalent 24–100mm) as its first fully-compatible interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lens to incorporate an electronic motorized zoom. The new lens has a zoom ratio of approximately 4.2x with macro capabilities (focusing is possible between 8 and 20 inches). Manual zooming is also available for those looking to take full control. Expected to be available Mid-January 2012, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ has also been enhanced with a linear motor that drives smooth and quiet autofocusing.

The basic E-mount specification will be disclosed to manufactures of lenses and mount adaptors. It means owners of Sony’s NEX-3, NEX-5, NEX-VG10 and other E-mount compatible Sony digital imaging products to be launched in the future will now be able to use interchangeable lenses from both Sony and various other manufactures, while they will also be able to attach non-Sony lenses to their Sony digital imaging products via a mount adapter. Samsung announced five new lenses for its NX camera system: 18-200mm multi-purpose Long Zoom Lens, 16mm F2.4 Ultra Wide Pancake Lens, 60mm Macro Lens, 85mm F1.4 CSC lens, and 16-80mm Advanced Standard Zoom Lens.
